It is with pleasure that NSW Institute of Psychiatry (NSWIOP) would like to advise of the launch the new Understanding the Mental Health Act 2007 Website, that contains the updated Mental Health Act Guide Book and associated resources.
Following the review of the Mental Health Act 2007, the Mental Health Amendment (Statutory Review) Act 2014 was passed by Parliament in 2014. These changes came into effect on 30 August 2015.
NSWIOP was contracted by the Mental Health Branch, Ministry of Health, to provide a full program of education and training resources on the Act and the 2015 amendments.
The “Understanding the Mental Health Act” website contains a range of user-friendly resources, including the following:
- Mental Health Act 2007 Guide Book (2016 edition)
- Fact Sheets covering the 2015 amendments to the Mental Health Act 2007
- Frequently Asked Questions for NSW Health staff
- Useful links and information relating to the Mental Health Act
The “Understanding the Mental Health Act” website can be accessed at the following link: www.mha.nswiop.nsw.edu.au.
This website and associated resources are available to all staff across the health system as well as to our service partners.
It is expected from January 2017 the website will provide links to new online training modules that will cover the main changes to the Mental Health Act.
